Event brief & objective:
This ‘Spark’ event was part of a series of customer events aimed to build momentum, drive awareness, inspire and delight, and educate the client’s customer base.
Why did you choose the Science Museum for your event?
The Science Museum ticked many of the boxes on our search criteria, and both asembl. and our client has worked with Illuminate before, so we know the venue well.
The Science Museum is at the forefront of scientific and technological advancements, so it seemed a fitting choice to host this event. As our client is a modern technology company, we were looking for somewhere that was in keeping with their brand and values whilst being iconic to London. Sustainability is always an important factor in the decision-making process, and the museum is committed to reducing its environmental impact.
Illuminate and Wonderlab offer a quirky option that doesn’t feel too corporate and provides a space that can be easily transformed for the right look and feel. Additional spaces were available throughout the event, so as the event evolved, we knew the museum would suit our needs.
What were you looking for in a venue when you started planning this event?
We were looking for the WOW factor but also wanted a blank canvas that could be adapted to create maximum brand impact and provide an inspirational atmosphere. A central location with excellent transport links was important because delegates travelled to attend from across the world.
What sort of experience did you want to create for guests?
With hands-on working sessions, networking, and educational content, we wanted an experience and atmosphere that would amaze and spark curiosity.
How did you choose which spaces at the museum you wanted to use?
Using asembl’s knowledge of the venue, this space was proposed to the client against several other options, and the client was familiar with the space from previous events. We chose Illuminate for its versatility, capacity, natural light, and stunning views of the London skyline.
How did Illuminate and Wonderlab: The Equinor Gallery work for your event?
The stand out for Illuminate was the open space with natural light and the panoramic window. The sky was clear and bright, so there were views for miles. We made the most of the available space by using Level 5 for the main conference, which was set up theatre-style with a stage, pop-up sponsor booths, and a networking area. The stage was fitted with a branded backdrop, with screens on either side.
Level 4 was used for the seated lunch and an additional 1 to 1 meeting area. With the flexibility of the space, as delegate numbers grew, we were confident that we could adjust the layout as required.
After the main conference, delegates moved into Wonderlab for an unforgettable evening with cocktails and networking. The interactive exhibits and experiments provided conversation starters and moments of delight.
Who were your catering and AV partners?
We worked with Moving Venue, White Light and Hybrid Flowers.
Moving Venue provided a tailored, vegetarian-only menu to fit in with a sustainable and environmentally aware offering. This menu was served alongside fact cards about carbon and environmental impacts. So not only delicious, but it was educational too.
White Light provided a full conference set-up with relay screens, comfort monitors, a countdown clock, video relay and 2 main projector screens. The in-house lighting system in Illuminate is fantastic and has so many colour variants it worked well with the brand colours of the event. The branding opportunities were vast, and White Light did a great job in transforming the space through various vinyl applications (the window vinyl being the most popular!) working with the client’s brand team we were able to bring their branding vision to life.
Hybrid Flowers provided a selection of potted succulent plants that were used throughout the event to add décor. After the event, delegates were invited to take the plants home with them as a memento of the day.
What feedback did you receive from guests?
Overall, our client was very happy with how the event went. They loved the venue and thought Jenny was amazing. Nothing was too much trouble, and she was always on hand to help. The Wonderlab cocktail was a huge hit with delegates. On the night, people were saying how they could relax after a busy day and immerse themselves in the experiences.
